TEAM VOLUNTEER DAYS

Our team volunteer days are a rewarding opportunity  to gain a deeper understanding of food insecurity, barriers our clients face to access services, and the work that Parkdale Community Food Bank does to ensure our community members receive nutritious food with dignity. Most importantly, your team will play a vital role in supporting our food bank’s mission; embracing the belief that joy is fundamental to nourishment, our mission is to create a hungry-free community. Through barrier-free access to diverse food options, every person who walks through our doors has a place at our table.

The Opportunity:

Assist us in managing and preparing for our service days by receiving donations, organizing the warehouse, bagging food, sorting items, and setting up our grocery area. This role is perfect for those looking to make a tangible difference in their community.

This opportunity is available on Tuesday and Friday mornings, for groups of 5-10 people, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM to help feed our community.

Leading up to your volunteer day, we ask that your team support the food bank through making one of the following contributions to our essential work in Parkdale.

  • Your team can coordinate a food drive! Coordinate a food drive at your office - we will provide you with a list of the food bank’s most needed items and the resources you need to get started. Then, bring the food donations with you on your volunteer day. (Suggested donation: $700 value in food)

  • We can generate a custom fundraising page for your team! Use this page to fundraise for the food bank leading up to your volunteer day. We can customize your page with all of your company’s branding, photos, colours etc. (Suggested fundraising goal: $700)

  • We can invoice your company for a contribution to the Parkdale Community Food Bank. (Suggested donation: $700)

All teams will receive a certificate of appreciation and individual pins upon completion of the volunteer day.

About Us:

Our Services Include:

Drop-In Grocery Program: With our Drop-In program, community members are empowered to shop for their families. This method is similar to a grocery store and prevents waste as community members know the cultural, dietary, and personal preferences of their family. Our shopping model allocates a certain number of food items depending on the size of their household. We strive to offer a wide range of food items every week, catering to all diets.

Delivery Program: Our delivery program was established in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, to assist members of our community who were unable to leave their homes due to health concerns. We continue to operate this program for those who are unable to access our services in person due to illness, disability, or other reasons. Volunteers are the heart of our organization, with over 200 households receiving groceries delivered to their homes via volunteer drivers every week.

Quick Facts:

The Parkdale Community Food Bank is a grassroots organization, founded by volunteers in November 2007, after the threatened closure of the 25 year old Saint Phillips Pantry. At that time, Parkdale's only food bank was at risk of disappearing.

Located on Queen Street West in the heart of Parkdale, our philosophy reflects a strong commitment to a client-based model, where respect, inclusion and the dignity of our members is the first priority. The food bank uses a shopping system, as opposed to the more common hamper system to maximize selection and prioritize member's various dietary needs.
